McKelvey used the name “Charles” when he was dealing narcotics, and he thought of his radio handle as a portmanteau of the two names. He typed “Tha God” because it suited his fancy. Charlamagne, although seeing his time with Wendy Williams as a form of mentorship, has always been one to push his own opinions into conversations.
The fact that he was a radio novice didn’t seem to go with his plain and, at times, brutal style to interviewing famous people.
