Orlando Franklin, a former offensive lineman for the Denver Broncos, has accepted a coaching position with the San Francisco 49ers and will be leaving his position as a radio host at 104.3 The Fan.

After spending the summer as an intern with the 49ers, Franklin will be officially joining Kyle Shanahan’s staff in San Francisco.
Franklin was quoted on 104.3 The Fan, “My coaching internship with the 49ers was a tremendous experience, and I was thrilled that coach Shanahan offered me the opportunity to remain with the team this season.”

Though I’ll miss doing my radio show on The Fan, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to work closely with my father-in-law Bobby Turner and continue learning from coach Kyle Shanahan. From 2011 to 2014, Franklin was a member of the Broncos’ roster.

He then went on to play for the Chargers, the Saints, and the Redskins. In 2013, he started 15 of Denver’s 16 games and was a big reason why the Broncos made it to the Super Bowl. In 2013, the Broncos scored 606 points, which was a new NFL record for a single season.

In addition to Franklin, another offensive lineman from Denver’s historic 2013 season is now a coach. Former Broncos guard Chris Kuper is now the team’s assistant offensive line coach under Mike Munchak. Kuper played guard for Denver from 2006 to 2013.
