Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan put his life in danger to save Commando Sunil Kumar Yadav. While defending himself from the attackers, he was shot in the left arm and suffered other injuries. While battling the terrorists, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan passed away from numerous wounds and blood. His body was discovered in the hotel the following day, lying in a pool of blood.

Sandeep Unnikrishnan and his group believed there might be terrorists in a fourth-story room sealed from the inside as they descended the sixth floor. While Commando Sunil Kumar Yadav was wounded by terrorist gunfire on both of his legs, Sandeep Unnikrishnan and his crew worked to free the captives who were being held in that room.

Risking his life, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan managed to save Commando Sunil Kumar Yadav. While engaged in combat with the terrorists, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan received a gunshot wound to his left arm. Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, fighting with the terrorists himself, died due to numerous injuries and blood. The following day, his body was discovered in a pool of blood.
