After reportedly shooting his wife in their house, a Texas sheriff’s deputy who spent four years playing a bailiff on a television courtroom show has been charged with murder.

Renard L. Spivey is most known to viewers for his role as the bailiff on the 2012–2016 courtroom drama Justice For All with Judge Cristina Perez. He worked as a deputy with Houston’s Harris County Sheriff’s Office when he didn’t appear on television.

Spivey, however, 63, was taken into custody on Monday and lodged in the Harris County Jail on suspicion of murder.

According to police, according to Fox News, Spivey had a gunshot wound to the leg when officers arrived at the scene of a domestic disturbance complaint. Authorities claim that after further inquiry, they found his wife’s body, 52-year-old Patricia Ann Marshall Spivey, who had been shot.

According to the charge documents presented in court on Monday, Spivey allegedly told police that he and Patricia were fighting over his alleged steroid use. According to Spivey, the two fought over a gun in the bedroom closet. A minimum of three rounds were fired, hitting Patricia twice and Renard once.

According to KHOU-TV, Renard allegedly told police during an interview recorded on an officer’s body camera, “We was arguing and tussling with the gun.” All day, we had been fighting.

According to court documents ABC 13 was able to obtain, Spivey will be evaluated for his mental health while being held.

Spivey is reportedly being held without bond, according to online detention records. His attorney is not listed in the court records, and he has not yet entered a plea. On Wednesday afternoon, there will be a preliminary court hearing for him.

Friends and family of Patricia Spivey are still in shock over their unexpected loss.

She cherished life. A constant smile. Loved taking pictures ever since. Ezra Washington, her brother, told ABC 13 that she “loved to shoot pictures.” “I am aware of her destination. I am familiar with her life. Yeah, she did well. She did well but was taken too soon.
