When that happens, the video stops playing until additional people have shared the link on Facebook. The allegation is “completely incorrect,” a spokesman from Dion’s talent agency told AFP. On CNN’s website, entering “Celine Dion dead” returns no results.
The fake video was based on a real news clip from June 8, 2018, which reported the death of American chef and TV personality Anthony Bourdain. This CNN special report has the same clip: Dion, who is on tour worldwide until September 2020, performed at Detroit, Michigan’s Little Ceasars Arena on the evening of November 5 despite the false rumor being widely circulated online starting on November 4.
A snapshot of “Céline” from the event was tweeted, and concertgoers also used social media to share memorable moments from the show. According to Whois, the domain for the website reporting Dion’s death was registered on November 2, 2019.
This is a typical red flag that a news website can’t be trusted. In September 2018, the 51-year-old singer took a world tour in her home province of Quebec, Canada, to promote her new album “Courage.” She said she would end her 16-year Las Vegas residency in June 2019.
