Mallory Pugh was born in Littleton to Karen and Horace Pugh, and she and her older sister Brianna grew up in Highlands Ranch. His mother, Nancy, played collegiate basketball and tennis, and his father, Bill, played baseball and worked as an assistant coach for the Trojans.
Swanson has been a big fan of the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball (MLB) since he was a kid growing up outside of the city.
