Christopher Gilbert Pérez, born in the United States on August 14, 1969, is a renowned guitarist for the Tejano band Selena y Los Dinos. On April 2, 1992, he wed Selena, the group’s lead singer. Pérez was born to parents Gilbert Pérez and Carmen Medina in San Antonio, Texas.
He started working for Shelly Lares’ band in 1986. Among Tejano performers, Pérez’s guitar skills were well-regarded by the late ’80s. This piqued the interest of Selena y Los Dinos’s producer, A.B. Quintanilla, who was looking for a new guitarist.
Pérez and Selena started dating anywhere between one and two years after he joined the band. Abraham Quintanilla, Selena’s father, broke them up because he worried Pérez’s reputation would hurt his daughter’s career.
They continued their relationship despite his warnings that he would break up the group. When Abraham kicked Pérez out of the band, Selena couldn’t follow him. Pérez was detained for DUI in San Antonio in the early 1990s but was eventually released.
