The mother of a 6-year-old boy who was brutally murdered and then beheaded earlier this year in Missouri has been declared mentally incompetent to stand trial.
Online court documents show that Judge Sarah Castle committed Tasha Haefs, 35, after completing a case management meeting on May 27.
With the judge’s ruling, the criminal case against Tasha Haefs, who was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the horrible death of her young son, Karvell Stevens, on February 16, is put on hold.
When police were called to the Kansas City crime scene in February, they discovered the family dog had been killed and beheaded.
After getting a call from a resident claiming that “the devil was trying to attack her,” police sped over to Tasha Haefs’ house.
According to a previously made public criminal complaint, Tasha Haefs allegedly admitted to killing her son after being apprehended, telling detectives she had killed him “in the shower” before “decapitating the victim.”
By May 20, Haefs was required to have a psychiatric assessment. The evaluation’s conclusions were delivered to the court on May 25.
Haefs was given over to the Missouri Department of Mental Health by Castle after determining that she “lacks the mental fitness to proceed” to trial based on the analysis.

Tasha Haefs is to be admitted to “a suitable hospital facility for treatment,” according to the Commitment Order.
Haefs will receive treatment and assess her mental health again during the following six months.
The case will have a hearing on a criminal motion the following week. The public defender for Tasha Haefs could not be reached right away by PEOPLE.
Donations are still needed for a GoFundMe effort to assist pay for the funeral expenses for Karvell.
