James Gunn Dc Movies: Filmmaker James Gunn, who, with producer Peter Safran acquired control of Warner Bros. Discovery in October, has made his first extensive public comment about the future of DC Studios.
“Peter and I chose to helm DC Studios knowing we were coming into a fractious environment, both in the stories being told and in the audience itself, and that there would be an unavoidable transition period as we moved into telling a cohesive story across film, TV, animation, and gaming,” Gunn tweeted on Thursday.

Gunn’s decision to speak out was prompted by a lengthy piece published by The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, which said that a sequel to Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman 1984,” scheduled for release in 2020, was being scrapped at Warner Bros.

Variety confirmed that part of the report, but sources cautioned that several other assertions were far more speculative, such as the possibility of Jason Momoa switching from Aquaman to the DC anti-hero Lobo and the case of a sequel to “Man of Steel” starring Henry Cavill and “Black Adam” starring Dwayne Johnson.

Those in the know at Warner Bros. claim Gunn and Safran have been playing their cards close to the chest in preparation for next week when they will submit their current plans for the DC Universe across film, television, and gaming to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.
Whatever Gunn and Safran decide to produce will have to compete with Zack Snyder’s DC Cinematic Universe, which he kicked off with “Man of Steel” in 2013. Some films from that universe, like “Shazam! Fury of the Gods,” “The Flash,” “Blue Beetle,” and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” were planned and produced before the current studio administration took over, although they are still scheduled to be released in 2023.
To compete with Disney and Marvel’s massively successful shared cinematic universe, Gunn and Safran have been tasked with writing “the next 10 years of the story” for the DCEU. However, it is unclear what, if any, elements from the Snyderverse would be retained.

Gunn has kept more of a dialogue with his fans than almost any other genre filmmaker, answering questions about his DC and Marvel projects on Twitter (or debunking false rumors or out-of-control speculation), so he has a unique understanding of how divisive and heated the DC fandom has become and how difficult it would be for its most ardent and fervent supporters to accept a departure from the Snyderverse.

Gunn’s Twitter post directly confronted that tension. He stated, “We realize we are not going to make every single individual happy every step of the way, but we can promise everything we do is done in the service of the STORY, and in the service of the DC CHARACTERS we know you cherish and we have cherished our whole lives.”
