Is Richard Simmons Still Alive? What Happened to Him?

Is Richard Simmons Still Alive: American fitness guru and public figure Milton Teagle “Richard” Simmons (born July 12, 1948) is recognized for his eccentric, flamboyant, and high-energy style. He is well-known for promoting weight loss programs with his Sweatin’ to the Oldies series of fitness videos.

Simmons got his start in the weight loss industry by creating a gym called Slimmons in Beverly Hills, California, for the obese. His success on television and with his consumer products propelled him to fame. He’s frequently satirized and has appeared on late-night talk shows, including David Lettermen and Howard Sterns.

In addition to his decades-long work advocating for health and exercise, he became politically active, advocating for measures like the inclusion of non-competitive physical education in public schools as part of the No Child Left Behind Act in 2008.

Richard has chosen to remain mysterious for the past few years, but he is still alive in 2022.

The fitness expert does leave his house, says TMZ creator Harvey Levin, to go shopping or for a walk by the beach, but he has managed to avoid being caught on camera, according to The Sun.

Although he hasn’t identified himself, he has established himself by returning to posting fitness class recordings on his YouTube channel after an almost eight-year absence.

In 2016, he completed his final workout at his studio, Slimmons, and then retired from public view. But in 2022, he’s doing just great.

What Happened to Him?

Richard merely wanted to be alone, according to his spokesperson, Lenny, and Richard’s brother.

Wild stories about him followed his absence, and he was not exempt from them, although none were confirmed.

He’s not ill; his brother told PEOPLE in 2017. He doesn’t have any medical issues at all. These claims about him changing into a woman are absurd. I can guarantee that he isn’t evolving into someone other than himself. My wife Cathy and I spent five days with him over Christmas there.

“He just decided to retire after 40 or so years. He’s currently 68 years old and in fantastic condition, but all he wants is time to himself,” the man continued.

Richard is currently 73 years old.

Opening His Fitness Studio

Richard Simmons created The Anatomy Asylum, a fitness center in Los Angeles, in 1974.

Simmons envisioned a location where people trying to lose weight might go with others in a judgment-free direction toward the healthier lifestyle they desired.

For Simmons, his fitness center needed a setting where people could get in shape and meet new friends who sympathized with their challenges.

He wanted his gym to be a supportive environment where people could grow in confidence.

The Anatomy Asylum distinguished itself from the many other gyms in the Los Angeles region by having that supportive community.

Richard Simmons changed the name of the gym to Slimmons after becoming a hugely successful fitness guru to represent the welcoming and upbeat atmosphere the gym aimed to create.

Having served the neighborhood for more than 40 years, Simmons developed into one of the most reputable gyms in the region.

Before abruptly ceasing to work at his gym, Richard Simmons remained there until February 2014.

Despite not knowing it would be his last day on the job, those who worked with Simmons at his gym could sense something was off that day.

Simmons always arrives early to work to motivate his employees, but on this particular day, he was running late and appeared disorganized.

He didn’t make the usual jokes with the employees and left the gym the way he always did, promising to see them all the following workday.

Instead, he decided to put his health first and take a break from employment.

In November 2016, Slimmons would close its doors.
