Students From Maine Maritime Academy Slain In Castine Accident Remembered By Student-athletes As’respected’

Castine Accident: According to officials, the inquiry into how four students from Maine Maritime Academy died in a catastrophic automobile wreck on Saturday might take weeks or even months.

The student driving a Range Rover with six other passengers in Castine who struck a tree not far from the small seaside school on Monday refused to provide any information, according to Maine State Police.

“We will not be commenting any further on this crash as this is an active investigation,” said Shannon Moss, a state police spokesperson. “The cause of the crash and details surrounding the crash are part of the investigation and, if released too early, could compromise the investigation.”

According to her, the seriousness of the incident caused the investigation to take so long. Joshua Goncalves-Radding, the driver, lived. It is unknown if he will be charged in connection with the accident.

Moss declined to comment on the vehicle’s seating arrangement or the rescue effort.

Students from Maine Maritime Brian Kenealy, Chase Fossett, Riley Ignacio-Cameron, and Luke Simpson perished in the early-morning crash on Saturday. Requests for comment from Castine fire officials were not answered.

Academy President Jerry Paul said he couldn’t comment on the specifics of the crash, such as where the kids were coming from at 2 a.m., during a press conference held before a candlelight vigil on Sunday. A relative of Simpson’s informed the Boston Globe that he and his pals were leaving a concert.

Goncalves-Radding, a cadet from North Babylon, New York, and classmates Noelle Taveres and Dominick Gecoya were found to be driving on Route 166 with the four guys, according to the police’s preliminary investigation.

All three of the pupils who survived sustained injuries that weren’t regarded as life-threatening.

A fundraising campaign has been launched to assist Tavares, from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and her family.

“We hope [to] surround her with friends and family on her road to recovery,” the organizer, who did not return a request for comment, wrote. “Everything will be used to fund the hotel stays, and anyway, we can help the Tavares family.” Keep yourself updated with all the latest news from our website Newswatchlist.com and get all the recent updates.
