Stuart Margolin Dead: An Emmy-winning actor from “The Rockford Files,” Stuart Margolin, has passed away. He was 82.

He passed away on Monday, ten years after receiving a pancreatic cancer diagnosis, according to his stepdaughter Michelle Martini, who revealed the news to USA TODAY on Wednesday.

“It just got to a point where it was too hard to fight (cancer) anymore,” she added.

Martini remembered how Margolin affected her family. The actor became the stepfather to her and her brothers Max and Christopher when he wed her mother, Patricia Margolin, in 1982.

“He was one of the most generous people I’ve ever met,” Martini said. “He took my brothers and me, made a family for us, and changed our lives in many ways. And he was an amazing husband to my mother.”

In an interview with USA TODAY, Patricia described her “lifelong romance” with Margolin, which started when they were teenagers and first met in juvenile court. At 14, Margolin tried to live independently and ran away from home. He was put on trial for these crimes. Due to a criminal justice reform project that attempted to have juveniles with less severe charges assessed by their peers, Patricia, who was also a teenager at the time, was assigned to judge the case.

“I was a juvenile judge, and I found him guilty and referred him to the Dallas Police Department,” said Patricia, who also went on to have a career in law enforcement. “That’s how we met.”

Margolin and Patricia reconnected at a dance shortly after their court appearance, which is when “the romance started,” according to Patricia. Even though they later married, they divorced around the same time and restarted their romance.

Their 40 years of marriage were recently commemorated.

“He was the love of my life all my life,” Patricia said.

According to IMDb, Margolin’s acting career lasted almost six decades, starting in 1961 with “The Gertrude Berg Show” and ending in 2022 with the short film “Home,” where he voiced the character.
