The new teaser’s live stream this past Sunday confirmed the TV show’s April premiere date and also disclosed that the first episode would begin receiving advance screenings in Japanese movie theatres on March 17. Additionally, it announced the casting of numerous additional actors, including Tomoyo Takayanagi as Sarina, Takeo Otsuka as Aqua, Yurie Igoma as Ruby, and Kent It as Gor.

The show’s protagonist is OB/GYN physician Gor, who eventually assumes the form of one of his idol Ai’s children. Chao Nekotomi and Daisuke Hiramaki, who previously worked on the idol-drama Selection Project, will co-direct the anime adaptation. Jin Tanaka is writing the series scripts, and character designs are being handled by Kanna Hirayama, who also worked on the Rent-a-Girlfriend anime.

The triple-length premiere and theatrical release of Oshi no Ko mark it as something the production firms behind it feel has the potential to be a great smash. It’s an outstanding pedigree and a promising start for the anime. Given the success of the source, it makes logical.

The original manga, written by the same people who wrote Kaguya-sama: Love is War and Scum’s Wish, had previously taken first place in the “Next Manga Awards” in 2021 and the Best General Manga category at the 46th Kodansha Manga Awards in 2022. The 26th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize and the 14th and 15th Manga Taisho Awards were among the other honors for which the series was nominated this year. Only time will tell if the anime adaptation can live up to such pedigree.
