At the age of 40, Stephen “tWitch” Boss committed suicide.

In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, Boss’ wife, Allison Holker Boss, 34, says, “It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to disclose my husband Stephen has departed us.” “Stephen brought light into every space he entered.

Above all else, he treasured his family, friends, and community. He believed that the best way to lead was to lead with love and light. He served as the foundation of our family, was the best husband and father, and served as an example to his followers.”

“To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt,” she continued. “I am certain there won’t be a day that goes by that we won’t honor his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for myself and our three children.”

Allison concluded by leaving her spouse a message. She said, “Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save the last dance for you.”

Before finishing second place on Star Search, Boss gained notoriety as a participant in MTV’s The Wade Robson Project. In 2008, he participated in So You Think You Can Dance, finishing the season as runner-up and returning as an All-Star. When the program came again in 2022, he served as a judge.
