Austin Butler Mom Cancer: On Saturday Night Live, Austin Butler experienced a teary moment as he thought of his late mother. The actor presided over the sketch program on Saturday after receiving a lot of accolades for his depiction of Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s biography earlier this year (17 December).
He discussed the importance of him presenting the program, which he used to watch as a child with his mother, during his introductory address to the audience.
I adore my mother, he declared. She and I watching Saturday Night Live together is one of my favorite childhood memories.
“And even though I had this crippling shyness, I’d do anything to make my mom laugh when I was with her. I’d make funny faces and voices.”
Butler then impersonated Gollum from The Lord of the Rings to the audience’s amusement and acclaim.
He said about his mother, “Being silly with her is what broke me out of my shell and is the basis of what launched me into acting.
Butler added: “My mom is no longer with us, but I’ve been thinking about her a lot this week, just imagining how proud she would be that her son, who used not to be able to order food for myself at a restaurant, is now standing on this stage.”
The mother of the 31-year-old actor, Lori Butler, passed away from cancer in 2014.
Butler, who was moved, inhaled and wiped his eyes as the audience applauded him. He concluded his homage by pledging his mum the benefit of his upcoming hilarious lines.
He pointed up and said, “Anytime you see me using a funny voice or making a weird face, that’s for you, Mom.
Along with Lizzo’s musical performance, the episode marked Cecily Strong’s farewell appearance as a longtime cast member of the show. Keep yourself updated with all the latest news from our website Newswatchlist.com and get all the recent updates.
