Amc Cancels Pantheon: Despite The Show’s Cancellation On Amc, Is There Still Hope For 61st Street?

Amc Cancels Pantheon: Pantheon, an animated science fiction series that only lasted a few seasons before being canceled, has joined the growing list of shows and projects that AMC Networks have compensated. The series’s first season debuted on September 1, 2018, and consisted of eight episodes.

In March 2020, the show was given an order for two seasons. Despite this order, the series was canceled following its first season’s completion and removed from the streaming service provided by AMC.

According to Deadline, which broke the news of Pantheon’s cancellation, the network AMC is looking to save upwards of approximately $400 million in content write-downs by canceling the series as part of an effort to cut costs and canceling Pantheon is one of the measures being taken to achieve this goal. They provided the following citation from an SEC filing in the report.

It was taken back in December. “As a direct outcome of the Plan, the programming assessments pertain to a wide variety of owned and licensed content. These assessments include legacy television shows and films that will no longer be in active rotation on the Company’s linear or digital platforms. In the future, the Company may earn revenue connected with licensing and other activities related to some of its titles.

Other programs, such as 61st Street and Invitation to a Bonfire, which were still in development, and Damascus, a science fiction comedy series from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul executive producer Mark Johnson, have been canceled as a result of the same cost-cutting approach.

Moonhaven was another show canceled despite the network has already renewed it for a second season. It has also been confirmed by Deadline that the second season of Pantheon has already been produced; however, the show will not air on AMC+ as the first season did.

Because the season has already been developed, Deadline speculates that AMC Studios may try to sell the series to other platforms even though it has already been made.
