Prince Harry Reveals Diana’s Final Journey: To find “closure,” Prince Harry revealed in his new autobiography Spare that he repeatedly had his driver pass through the Paris tunnel where his mother was fatally hurt. When Princess Diana’s car crashed in 1997, the Duke of Sussex asked his driver to take him through the Pont de L’Alma tunnel at 65 mph.
Leaked book excerpts claim that when Prince Harry was 23 years old and in Paris, he was trying to end decades of “unrelenting sorrow.”
He instructed his driver to “be exact” and to maintain a speed of 65 mph while navigating the tunnel. Although Spare won’t be available in the UK until January 10, The Mirror reported that the book has already unintentionally gone on sale in Spain.
According to the book, Harry said that his security warned the driver that “hell to pay” awaited him if he ever revealed the details of the drive.
“We flew ahead, went over the lip at the tunnel’s entrance, the hump that purportedly caused Mummy’s Mercedes to deviate off course,” he wrote of the incident.
Harry acknowledged that while thinking the tunnel would be a “treacherous path,” they “barely touched” the lip. The Duke of Sussex then disclosed that he told his driver, “that’s enough,” after asking him to drive through the tunnel again.
He reportedly said he desired “closure” but realized it had been a “terrible idea.”
Harry added: “I’d thought driving the tunnel would bring an end, or brief cessation, to the pain, the decade of unrelenting pain. Instead, it brought on the start of Pain, Part Deux.”
His narrative continues by describing the battle he had with his bodyguard Billy the Rock, after the drive.
After being dropped off at the bar, Harry reportedly started “searching for a fight,” screaming in Billy’s face and smacking his head.
He claimed that Billy “barely responded” and that the Prince was put to bed by him and another bodyguard.
Harry also asserted that when he told his brother William about driving through the tunnel, William “wasn’t astonished” because he had previously taken the same route.
Starting on January 10, Spare can be purchased from any bookseller or supplier of audiobooks.
