Former Apartheid-Era Minister Adriaan Vlok Dies: Adriaan Vlok, a former Law and Order Minister during the apartheid era, passed away at Unitas Hospital in Centurion.
Vlok, who was 85 years old, passed suddenly early on Sunday morning after a brief illness.
His wife, three children, four granddaughters, and one great-grandchild are still alive.
Vlok gained notoriety for being the only apartheid minister to confess to violating human rights. This covers the attacks on the Cosatu headquarters and the SA Council of Churches.
After testifying about his involvement in apartheid cruelty, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) gave him amnesty in 1999.
After entering a guilty plea to ordering security police to shoot anti-apartheid campaigner Frank Chikane, he was given a 10-year suspended sentence for attempted murder in 2007.
According to family spokeswoman Peet Bothma, funeral arrangements are being arranged and will be announced. Keep yourself updated with all the latest news from our website Newswatchlist.com and get all the recent updates.
