Senior investigator Detective Chief Inspector Gemma Alger stated: “We believe the victim was in a car with companions that were stopped in Derby Road EN3 when they were approached by at least two suspects who fired shots without provocation and then fled on foot.

“I am aware that the incident has frightened residents of the area, who are repulsed that such blatant violence could occur in their streets during the day. We understand your feelings and strive to find the culprits and hold them accountable.

“As is frequently the case, the community may hold the key to determining the sequence of events that led to this incident. Although we have already heard from some people, we are still eager to hear from anyone who has information they would want to share with us.

“We’re assisting our colleagues in Specialist Crime as they investigate and continue to work with our trusted neighborhood partners, Independent Advisory Groups, and community forums following this terrible occurrence,” said Detective Superintendent Marco Bardetti of the North Area Command Unit.

“It is crucial that the police and the neighborhood cooperate in apprehending criminals. It is understandable if you have the information you want to share but are hesitant. Using 100% anonymous methods like the independent charity Crimestoppers, you could give us vital information to make arrests.
