Damar Hamlin Visits Teammates For 1st Time Since Injury: About two weeks after suffering a heart arrest and needing to be revived on the field during a game in Cincinnati, Damar Hamlin visited with teammates at the Bills facilities on Saturday for the first time since being released from a Buffalo hospital.

Matt Milano, a linebacker with the Bills, shared a picture of Hamlin shaking hands with a teammate while grinning.

The Associated Press received confirmation of the player’s visit from a source with firsthand knowledge of Hamlin’s schedule. In order to protect the privacy of his schedule and recovery, Hamlin has allowed the person to speak on the condition of anonymity.

After completing his last tests at Buffalo General Medical Center on Wednesday, Hamlin was given the all-clear to return home. The likelihood that he will be fit enough to attend the game is increased by the fact that his journey to meet with teammates occurs the day before the Bills (13-3) host their division rival Miami Dolphins (9-8) in a wild-card playoff game.

Doctors have described the 24-year-old Hamlin’s recovery after his heart stopped after being struck directly in the chest by Bengals receiver Tee Higgins in the first quarter of a since-canceled game at Cincinnati on January 2 as “remarkable.”

The first two days of Hamlin’s stay at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center were spent sedated and on a ventilator. Hamlin did not exhibit any neurological damage upon awakening, and four days after his arrival, he was capable of independent breathing, walking, and conversing.

On January 6, when Hamlin came via videoconference from his hospital room, he made his first contact with his teammates. He gestured with his hands, flexed his muscles, and said, “Love you, lads,” to them.

After live tweeting the Bills’ 35-23 victory against New England on Sunday, Hamlin was transferred to Buffalo the following day after being discharged from the Cincinnati hospital. He is currently completing his recovery with the Bills.

By last weekend, when the entire league recognized Hamlin, who goes by No. 3, the Bills and the NFL‘s messaging had changed from “Prayers for Damar 3” to “Love for Damar 3” as Hamlin’s rehabilitation proceeded.

The Bills are encouraged by Hamlin’s recovery after watching him be revived by medical personnel and being in awe and emotional.

When they would have the chance to speak with Hamlin in person, the Bills were unsure on Wednesday, saying it would depend on the player regaining his strength.

“Just making sure he’s taking it slow, and obviously trying to get back to being himself,” quarterback Josh Allen said. “So we’ll take all the time that we need. But I hope he knows the guys are ready to see him.”

Hamlin’s toy drive fundraising received $8.6 million in GoFundMe contributions in the days after his demise, and the money will be utilized to benefit young people through sports and education.

Hamlin, who is from the Pittsburgh suburb of McKee’s Rock, will also use the money raised through the sale of new T-shirts to donate to the Cincinnati trauma center where he was initially treated. The shirts have the slogan “Did We Win?” and a heart-shaped illustration of Hamlin’s hands.
