Kevin Swindell is no stranger to the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals’ victory lane. He celebrated winning three preliminary night races and four golden driller awards while driving. But on Friday night, Swindell made a new appearance on the winner’s stage in the capacity of Logan Seavey’s car owner.

Seavey won the Friday night preliminary feature after starting in pole position and giving Kevin Swindell his first victory as a car owner inside the SageNet Center.

“I genuinely like it. He’s the best driver to compete here, and now that he can no longer compete, all he can do is own cars, according to Seavey. “It’s incredibly significant to construct a vehicle, come here for the first race, and start this well. He does a great job and makes such beautiful race vehicles, and I adore racing with him.

Kevin Swindell never came in worse than second place in the Chili Bowl A-Main from 2010 through 2015. His career as a driver ended after a devastating accident at Knoxville Raceway in August 2015 left him paraplegic from the waist down.

Since that incident, Kevin Swindell has started a new racing career as a team owner. He celebrated his most considerable success in his new position on Friday night.

Driving for a car owner with a winning history like Swindell could come with additional pressure. Seavey questioned such an idea and asserted that little pressure was involved in operating the Swindell Speedlab No. 39.

In the beginning, Seavey admitted, “I think maybe I felt a little bit more [pressure] from being in the building, being in Sammy’s pits, and being around that whole atmosphere.” It’s the most relaxed atmosphere I’ve ever experienced while racing, according to Kevin. It’s different when we enter the pits, even though I know this is undoubtedly the most significant race for him and the one he wants to win.

The victory on Friday boosted Seavey’s confidence. He hadn’t won a Midget race since the Ventura Raceway Turkey Night Grand Prix in 2021 until the triumph.

I haven’t won a Midget race in over a year, he added. “I’ve struggled with it. My confidence is restored to its proper level by coming here with [Kevin]. My car is going to be incredibly significant, I’m sure of it.

The rest of the pack found it challenging to push Seavey at any stage throughout the race on Friday night due to the rubberized racetrack. A flip by Ethan Mitchell into the barrier on lap 7 led to an open red, which proved to be the biggest surprise of the evening.

Following the red flag phase, a lengthy green flag run saw the track start to rubberize.

Regarding the track conditions, Seavey remarked, “I wasn’t worried for the first half of the race, and then I slowed down towards the end.” “I was pretty aback by how tattered the tires were. Even though I didn’t feel like I was pushing particularly hard, I suppose nobody else was trying very hard, and we were all in the same situation.

Justin Grant made ground early in the race, moving from fifth to second. He was never able to bid for the lead, though. Grant, who had won five of the previous six Friday night preliminary races, came in second and was relegated to the pole position.

Grant said, “There was like a three or four lap period there before the rubber began pouring that I felt like I was getting back to him fairly nicely. However, Logan was too far away for anything to happen. “I was hoping to keep running flyers around the top, and Logan would get trapped in traffic, and I could get back down there.”

Chase McDermand, who eventually finished in third place, was one driver who could gain from the rubber. He charged from position 15 to position himself well for Saturday night.

According to Chase McDermand, “I just stuck to the bottom and could feel it starting to come off of four first.” “I think I completed 18 laps in the rubber. I was undoubtedly the first to discover it while riding past the men. I was hoping that a yellow wouldn’t be issued before the person could notify them or before they noticed it themselves.

Jason McDougal completed the top five, with Zeb Wise moving from 11th to fourth.

The alphabet soup will start on Saturday morning after five nights of preparation. The 55-lap main event will be aired live on MAVTV on FloRacing and will be set up by a full day of racing.
