To frustrate GOP leaders trying to investigate President Joe Biden, the Justice Department advised House Republicans that it is doubtful the agency will release information regarding its ongoing criminal investigations.
In the letter Politico obtained on Friday, the Department of Justice stated that it “stands ready” to collaborate with congressional leaders but cautioned Ohio Republican Jim Jordan.
Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, “any oversight requests must be weighed against the department’s interests in protecting the integrity of its work.”
The letter stated, “The Department’s mission is to independently and impartially uphold the rule of law.
As such, we must maintain the integrity of our investigations, prosecutions, and civil actions and avoid even perceiving that our efforts are influenced by anything other than the law and the facts.
The letter continued, “Concerning requests for information and documents related to oversight, we share your conviction that congressional oversight is essential to our functioning democracy.
We are committed to cooperating with the Committee’s legitimate efforts to seek information, consistent with our obligation to protect Executive Branch confidentiality interests.”
The Department of Justice stated that it would require additional details from Republicans about what they would like access.
They confirmed that not all pertinent information regarding ongoing investigations might be allowed to be given in a public environment.
The letter stated, “If your request is explicit on the information the Committee requires, the Department will be better prepared to satisfy your requests at hearings.”
While we will make every effort to comply with requests for public testimony, it might not always be possible to take part or address all the issues the Committee wants to bring up.

“When information is not appropriate for a public hearing, we will make the necessary measures to assess whether such information can be conveyed in a different forum, such as a briefing, a closed hearing, or by the transmission of other information,” stated.
The Department of Justice’s handling of many high-profile investigations, including the separate special counsel inquiries into secret information discovered in possession of Biden and former President Donald Trump, was reiterated by House Republicans earlier this month.

The department’s letter foreshadows Jordan’s challenges in his attempts to put more pressure on the Biden administration.
Even though House Republicans have already established a subcommittee to look into the alleged “weaponization” of the federal government.
As part of his search for the documents needed by GOP lawmakers, Jordan has issued letters to numerous important government figures, including Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray.
To obtain answers for the American people, he stated, “House Judiciary Republicans are committed to holding each agency accountable under the new majority and will use mandatory procedures, if necessary.”
