Jelena Ostapenko, often known as Aona Ostapenko, is a professional tennis player from Latvia who was born on June 8, 1997.
On March 19, 2018, she achieved a career-high WTA singles ranking of No. 5, and on March 2, 2020, a doubles level of No. 17.
Ostapenko won the 2017 French Open, becoming the first unseeded player since 1933. Ostapenko is the first person from Latvia to win a Grand Slam singles match.
Besides playing singles, she was a member of the Latvian Fed Cup team. She has won seven singles matches and eight doubles on the ITF Women’s Circuit. The 2014 Wimbledon Championships junior singles division also saw her win first place.
In Moscow in 2012, Ostapenko took part in her maiden WTA qualifying round, but she could not advance.
In the following years, she mainly competed on the ITF Circuit, but in 2015, she was able to enter the Top 100.
In the following years, Ostapenko rose quickly; by 2017, she had completed her first Top 10 season. She was able to reach the Wimbledon semifinals and into the top 10 in 2018.
In 2019 she had yet to advance or triumph in a competition. Currently, Ostapenko has a record of 214 victories and 128 defeats.
She has won seven ITF Circuit matches in addition to two WTA crowns. Even though she hasn’t yet won a title in any of the other Grand Slam tournaments, Ostapenko won the championship at the 2017 French Open as the highlight of her progress in 2017.
In March 2018, she climbed as high as No. 5, her highest position. Ostapenko is currently ranked 39th worldwide as of May 27, 2019.

Ostapenko was born in Riga, Latvia, to Jeena Jakoveva and former Ukrainian player Jevgnijs Ostapenko (who passed away in 2020).
Jevgnijs played professional football for FC Metalurh Zaporizhya in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia, where Jeena’s grandma resides.
Maksim, one of Jeena’s half-brothers, lives in the United States. When she was five, her mother introduced her to tennis, and she grew up idolizing Serena Williams.
