A 96-year-old woman’s body was found in a freezer behind a Chicago house.

According to FOX Chicago, the woman, Regina Michalski, was discovered close to the 5500 block of West Melrose Street at about 4:35 p.m. She was found inside the freezer in a garage behind the house, surrounded by debris.

According to the news source, a relative identified Michalski. The home’s first floor was occupied by Michalski and her daughter, who also served as the building’s landlord.

Neighbors claimed to have not seen Michalski in a long time to the news source. Additionally, the daughter provided contradictory accounts in recent months, claiming that her mother was either still alive and living at home and had passed away or was in a nursing home in another state.

“She would talk about her like she was still here. I would be baffled because she had told my dad [that her mother] was in a home in Wisconsin,” a neighbor, Brigitte Yanez, said.

Diane Michalski, one of Michalski’s grandkids, revealed to the Chicago Sun-Times that she once resided above her grandmother’s apartment. According to Diane Michalski, her grandmother was a Polish immigrant who worked for Motorola most of her life.

“I remember being a kid and she’d bring some work home and show me the little technology and all the little intricate details that she had to do for her job” she said. “I mean, if you want to talk about women in STEM, she was it.”

She stated that it had been 20 years since she last saw her grandmother.

“She didn’t deserve to go that way,” she said.

The police have made no reports of arrests.
