According to officials, a 30-year-old councilwoman from the New Jersey municipality of Sayreville was found dead in her car on Wednesday.
Just after 7 o’clock on Wednesday, police discovered Republican councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour, who had suffered several gunshot wounds. Dwumfour was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Middlesex County officials.
According to CNN station WABC, Eunice Dwumfour was shot in her car near her home. According to the station, the vehicle then accelerated down the road and struck several parked cars.
Sayreville Mayor Victoria Kilpatrick said she was “shocked and saddened” to learn of Dwumfour’s death, saying she was “taken from us by a despicable criminal act.” She and Dwumfour worked closely together on the council, she wrote.
The mayor said she was a woman of great faith who worked hard to incorporate her solid Christian views into her daily life as a person and a community leader. “Beyond her dedication to our community, I can reveal that she was a woman of deep faith,” he added. I find it difficult to express my sorrow over a friend’s passing fully.
Officials said the investigation is ongoing and does not have a motive. CNN has reached out to the prosecutors and police for more details.
According to election results, Eunice Dwumfour was chosen to serve a three-year term on the six-member borough council in November 2021. According to the Sayreville website, she also served as a Human Relations Commission member.
According to the US Census, Sayreville, which is situated in central New Jersey, has a population of roughly 45,000 people.
In a post from 2021 on the Sayreville GOP website, Dwumfour pleaded with the public to support her council campaign.
She stated in her letter, “Like you, Sayreville is my home, I love and appreciate this community, and it is my wish to assist enhance the lives of its citizens. “Over the past five years, there have been numerous changes, including a global pandemic, but Sayreville is still standing strong thanks to its citizens, like you,” the statement reads.

New Jersey Republican Party Chairman Bob Hugin’s statement expressed his “horror and deepest sorrow” at her killing.
He remarked, “We will remember Eunice for her unwavering commitment to the community and her profound and strong Christian faith.”
Gov. Phil Murphy said in a statement Thursday morning that he was “stunned” by the news of her killing.

He said she had already established a reputation as a dedicated Borough Council member who took her duties earnestly and diligently, adding that her public service career was starting. I offer my condolences to Councilwoman Dwumfour’s family, friends, fellow members of the council, and the entire town of Sayreville.
Later, the governor stated, “We’ll do everything we can to find this murderer.”
“Even if it’s a little thing,” he urged the people to come forward and get in touch with the authorities if they know anything.
