Timothy David Olyphant was born in the United States on May 20, 1968. In 1995, he made his acting debut in The Monogamist at an off-Broadway theatre.
He won the Theatre World Award for his performance, and in 1996, he played the lead role in The Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris. Then he started acting in movies.
At the beginning of his career, he was often cast as a supporting lousy guy, like in Scream 2 (1997), Go (1999), A Man Apart (2003), Gone in 60 Seconds (2000), and The Girl Next Door (2004).
He got more people’s attention when he played Sheriff Seth Bullock in HBO’s western Deadwood from 2004 to 2006. He later played the same role in Deadwood: The Movie (2019).
He was the main character in movies like Catch and Release (2006), Hitman (2007), A Perfect Getaway (2009), and The Crazies (2010).
In Live Free or Die Hard, he played the main bad guy, Thomas Gabriel (2007). Damages, a legal thriller on FX, had Olyphant as a guest star several times in its second season (2009).

It’s unclear how Olyphant and Knief met, but Wide Open Country says it happened while they were both at the University of Southern California.
It seems like the college sweethearts married soon after they met, so it must have been love at first sight. In 1991, when Olyphant was only about 23 years old, he and Knief married.
Olyphant has also been open about the fact that he and Knief have been married for a long time, which is becoming less common in Hollywood and the rest of the world. In 2011, Olyphant told Women’s Health, “You have to be with the right person.”
