The Inquiry Into a Student’s Death at Binghamton University is Now Complete

Binghamton University Death

On Monday, classes were canceled at Binghamton University because of a death investigation.

President Harvey Stenger of Binghamton University wrote a letter to the student body Monday afternoon, informing them that a student had been found dead in the Bartle Library Tower on campus early that morning.

At 8:56 a.m., a school-wide notice said that an investigation had been initiated and that there was no threat to the campus or surrounding community. As on Monday at 9:23 a.m., all Binghamton University classes were suspended.

The university sent out a notification at 10:47 a.m. stating that the incident had been thoroughly investigated and the site had been cleaned.

Stenger stated that the family of the student (who remains unidentified) had been contacted and that the inquiry had found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing.

“Our deepest condolences go to the family and friends of the student,” he wrote. “We are overwhelmed by the tragic nature of their passing.”

Monday at 4 o’clock there will be a support group meeting for everyone on campus. The Student Support and Resources website provides access to further available services.
