Amber Laura Heard was born in Austin, Texas, on April 22, 1986. Heard was raised outside of Texas with one brother and learned to ride horses, go hunting, and fish.
She competed in beauty pageants as a teenager and attended a Catholic high school, but she eventually lost interest in religion and the Texan way of life that surrounded her.
She thus quit school at age 17 and relocated to New York City. She initially got work in New York as a model, but she soon changed her focus to acting and relocated to Los Angeles.

Amber recently gained notoriety due to her relationship with Johnny Depp, her ex-husband. Heard and Depp divorced in 2016 but continued arguing in court and the media for the next few years.
Depp sued Heard for $50 million in Virginia for defamation about an opinion piece she had written for the Washington Post the year before. Following the Depp lawyer’s remarks, Heard launched a $100 million counter-defamation lawsuit.
A Virginia jury rendered a verdict in Depp’s favor in June 2022, ordering Heard to pay him $15 million in damages. Depp was mandated to pay Heard $2 million by the same jury.
Johnny consented to accept a significantly reduced $1 million payout in December 2022 to end the dispute. Later in this post, more details on these slander actions. You can see the Tweet.

What Was the Initial Amount of Damages Awarded to Johnny?
As you probably already know, a Virginia jury found Amber guilty of defaming Johnny Depp in connection with the Op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post in 2018.
Johnny was first given a $15 million verdict by the jury, which comprised $5 million in punitive damages and $10 million in compensatory damages. To comply with Virginia law, which sets a cap on disciplinary penalties at $350,000, the punitive damages were swiftly reduced to that amount.
The same jury gave $2 million to Amber. Overall, Amber owes Johnny $8.35 million in damages as a result.
We pegged Amber’s net worth at $2.5 million before the judgment. Numerous stories claim that Amber’s homeowner’s insurance paid for most of her legal expenses until the verdict.
It’s unclear as of this writing if her insurance would also pay the total damages. The damages can also be lessened if the case goes to appeal. We think Amber would have difficulty paying for the losses if her insurance did not cover them.
The morning of June 2, 2022, the day following the verdict, Savannah Guthrie of “The Today Show” directly questioned Amber’s attorney about whether Amber could afford to pay the judgment. Oh no, Amber’s legal counsel retorted. Definitely not.
Amber’s potential next step is to appeal. Amber might have to deposit bail for the entire $10.35 million judgment before starting an appeal, which, by her own attorney, she would not be able to do with her own resources.
Amber may also file for bankruptcy if she cannot pay the judgment and it is not covered by insurance. However, due to a legal framework, a bankruptcy filing likely wouldn’t affect the damages’ $10 million compensatory element.
As it turned out, Amber consented to give Johnny a much smaller $1 million settlement. Their deal, made public in December 2022, ended the legal dispute. She technically got the money from her insurance company.
