Two children and one family member from Anaheim perished in a tragic Mother’s Day collision on the 10 Freeway on Sunday.
A collision involving a Tesla and a Chevy Suburban occurred in the Whitewater region close to Palm Springs. The Suburban, carrying nine people from the same family, lost control in the crash and struck the center divider.
Cecilia Villalobos, age 31, and two kids in the back seats, ages 10 and 12, were flung from the SUV and perished. Four additional kids, three girls, aged 3, 7, and 11, and a male, 15, who were sitting in the back, also had critical wounds.

A family member identified the two girls who perished in the collision as Villalobos’ daughters.
According to the county coroner’s office, Villalobos died at 8:10 a.m. and the two young kids at 8:25 a.m. According to relatives, the family traveled to Thermal in Coachella Valley to celebrate Mother’s Day.

The Suburban’s 41-year-old front passenger and driver both sustained injuries.
Not everyone was buckling up
The Tesla driver escaped harm.
“The speeds are still under investigation,” said California Highway Patrol Officer Jason Montez. “We are trying to determine which vehicle changed lanes and ended up hitting each other.”
