A power couple, Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance are both accomplished performers, generous donors, and devoted parents.
Fraternal twins Bronwyn Golden Vance and Slater Josiah Vance, both 16, were born via surrogate on January 27, 2006, following seven years of IVF.
“I dreamed about seven years ago that we would have twins. I didn’t know how it would happen,” Vance told Oprah in 2007.
Bassett added, “Just standing together, holding each other with the realization that this is the moment that we’ve been working toward, praying for … [it’s a dream come true].”
Bassett has described herself as the “good cop” in parenting, while her husband Vance is “generally quite calm but he is consistent.”
The twins attended the Oscars with Bassett and Vance in March 2023. Slater and his father looked sharp in all-black attire, while Bronwyn and the Black Panther actor dazzled in matching purple gowns.
Here is all there is to know about Bronwyn and Slater, the children of Angela Bassett.
Bronwyn Golden Vance, 16
The surrogate gave birth to Bronwyn, the couple’s daughter, on January 27, 2006. Bronwyn frequently imitated her mother when she was younger, especially when correcting her brother Slater.
“I’m just speaking from my experience, but my daughter, from the time she was a little one, was always sort of looking to me for the example of what to do and how to be,” Bassett told Vulture in 2019.
“I have twins, and if I told her brother something like, ‘Slater, put that down. Slater, don’t stand on that. Slater —’ she would be my little copy. If he did something, she would say, ‘Slater, put that down! Slater, don’t stand on that!’ She was my little copycat!”
As they grew older, both Bronwyn and her brother developed a passion for music.“They both play the piano, rap, and guitar, so they have a little musical interest that I drill into them and insist upon!” On the red carpet for the 2021 Golden Globes, she spoke with E!
The actress added that her 2020 animated picture Soul was well-received by both Bronwyn and Slater. “But I thought maybe they wouldn’t get into it because it’s jazz … but surprisingly, they loved it,” she added. “They got many of the themes and ideas from it and appreciated it.”
Bronwyn is only 16 years old and has already demonstrated a desire to help others. Bronwyn started collecting money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in January 2022. (LLS).
In just seven weeks, the campaign raised over $60,000, earning Bryn the 2022 Los Angeles Team Member of the Year title.
