Ariana Grande Addresses Concerns About Her Body On Tiktok

It goes without saying that being in the spotlight attracts intense scrutiny. And while not all of the gossip has to be addressed, it is occasionally daring and admirable to silence unfavorable remarks with a thoughtful, caring response.

Ariana Grande expertly accomplished this task today when she used TikTok to respond to criticisms made about her body with grace and sincerity.

“I just wanted to address your concerns about my body and talk a little bit about what it means to be a person with a body and to be seen and to be paid such close attention to,” says Grande after making it clear that she wishes she didn’t have to address these sentiments at all.

She stated that even seemingly pleasant commentary on the body and health is inappropriate and could be damaging.

According to experts, commenting on someone’s weight—regardless of intent—places excessive focus on appearance as a tie to self-worth and overall value, meaning keeping thoughts and assumptions to oneself is usually the best route.

“There are many different ways to look healthy and beautiful,” says Grande. “I know personally, for me, the body you’ve been comparing my current body to was the unhealthiest version of my body.”

The pop artist continues by saying that the body that her admirers portray as her “natural state” was a product of a terrible diet, drinking alcohol while taking antidepressants, and a generally depressing time in her life.

Grande wrapped up her remarks with love, a request not to bother her about her lack of eyelashes and liner, and a key lesson: “You never know, so be gentle with each other.”
