At Least 8 Killed In Texas Mall Shooting

Authorities said a shooter opened fire at the Allen Premium Outlets mall in Allen, Texas, a Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan region suburb, on Saturday afternoon, ki!!ing at least eight people and injuring another seven.

Officials have confirmed that an officer shot and ki!!ed the suspect.

Allen Fire Chief Jonathan Boyd told reporters at a news conference on Saturday night that paramedics took nine casualties to nearby hospitals. At the same time, another six victims were confirmed de@d at the site.

Boyd added that two of those who were transported eventually passed away.

Boyd revealed that three injured people were undergoing “critical surgery,” while four others were in stable condition. There was no instant publication of identities.

When he heard gunshots at 3:36 p.m. local time, an officer responding to an unrelated incident “neutralized” the suspect, who was already de@d, according to Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey.

“He heard gunshots, located the gunshots, located the shooter, neutralized the threat,” Harvey said.

According to Harvey, the gunman is thought to have operated alone. Authorities refused to answer inquiries or offer any information.

According to Janet St. James, a Medical City Healthcare representative, the organization’s trauma centers have treated at least eight shooting victims, whose ages ranged from 5 to 61.

In a previous briefing, Boyd admitted that although officials were not immediately aware of them, “there may have been” additional potential injured victims who were driven to hospitals “in private vehicles.”

The sound of gunfire and the commotion in the mall were captured on video shared on social media.

“We were in Johnson & Murphy, shopping for shoes, and we heard some pops go off, like 10,” one man told CBS Texas. “And I looked at the customer next to me, and I go, like, ‘Was that gunfire?’ And we were all like, ‘No, we don’t think so.’ We ran to the front when we heard like 20 more pops go off. And there was a guy right across, near like Francesca’s, in a full outfitted assault rifle, just shooting at people.”

“We saw bodies going down,” a woman claimed.

On the scene were agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. Anyone with cell phone video of the incident was urged to call the FBI by Allen police.

President Biden has been briefed on the shooting and was keeping an eye on the situation, according to a White House official who verified this to CBS News.

Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, declared in a statement that he has “offered the full support of the state of Texas to local officials to ensure all needed assistance and resources are swiftly deployed, including DPS officers, Texas Rangers, and investigative resources.”

Republican Rep. Keith Self stated in the briefing on Saturday that “we will never know how many lives were saved by the swift actions of our first responders. What we do know is that we owe a debt of gratitude to first responders that ran towards the gunfire and acted swiftly to neutralize the threat.”
