Mueller passed away on August 17, 2022, a Wednesday. Jim Donovan, the Cleveland Browns’ new announcer, announced his passing during the preseason game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cleveland Browns.
Mueller started working as a sports reporter for WPTV-TV in West Palm Beach, Florida, in 1968. After three years there, WHAS-TV in Louisville, Kentucky, hired him to anchor the sports reports at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. He also worked as the WHAS radio commentator for the Louisville Cardinals football team.
The highest rank of honor in the Kentucky, Kentucky Colonel, was bestowed to him by governor Julian Carroll in March 1972.
As a result of his passion for auto racing, Mueller even joined the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) as a driver. He was connected to the Roger Penske enterprise. Before being designated executive director for life in 1982, he co-founded the Sports Media Associates of Cleveland and Ohio (SMACO) and served as its first president for six years.
In 2005, Mueller was admitted into the Ohio Radio/Television Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

On May 23, 1943, Mueller was born in Owensboro, Kentucky. He eventually relocated to Florida, where he played collegiate football for the University of Florida and joined the Marines as a reserve. After college, he was signed by the Baltimore Colts of the National Football League (NFL), but his playing career was cut short by a severe ankle injury sustained in training camp.
