During Super Bowl LVIII, Beyoncé uploaded a video to Instagram to announce the news. The teaser footage and the sounds of both songs indicate that for the second act of her Renaissance trilogy, she is likely to embark on a country-themed journey.

The promotional video showcases classic melodies such as “Maybelline” by Chuck Berry and a desolate scene of men gazing upwards at a monumental billboard that prominently displays a bare Beyoncé and the inscription “Texas!” “Hold On.” The moment appears to be a reference to the 1984 film Paris, Texas, directed by Wim Wenders.

“Texas Hold ‘Em” was produced and features instrumental contributions and co-writing by Canadian artist Lowell, Rhiannon Giddens, Raphael Saadiq, Hit-Boy, Nathan Ferraro, Killah B, and others. Alongside Saadiq, Dave Hamelin, Gavin Williams, and Justus West, “16 Carriages” also features Saadiq.

Although the album announcement was unexpected, Verizon did allude to the airing of a Beyoncé-related advertisement this week. Undoubtedly, she appeared in a Verizon Super Bowl advertisement where she hinted at the imminent release of new music that would shatter the internet.

A few minutes later, she carried out that action. Beyoncé attended the 2024 Grammy Awards while donning a white cowboy bonnet, which may have been a reference to her country transition.

Prior to its July 2022 release, Beyoncé’s seventh studio album, Renaissance, was initially titled Act I: Renaissance, which suggested that subsequent albums would bear the same nomenclature.

There was a “cliquebait” clip for “Break My Soul,” a “brand campaign anthem film” for Tiffany & Co. that utilized “Summer Renaissance,” and a concert film that was exhibited in theaters around the globe, but the album never received traditional music videos.

During its opening weekend, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé ranked first in the United States. As of January 11, it had amassed more than $44.4 million in worldwide revenue. Regarding the 2023 Grammy Awards, “Break My Soul” received nominations for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Dance/Electronic Recording; however, Beyoncé emerged victorious with the latter honor.

Despite this, she still managed to secure four trophies that evening, bringing her career total to 32 triumphs and shattering the record for the most Grammys won by an artist in the annals of the award show.
