The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office has Leachman down as another major COVID-19 victim. Although the stroke was the primary cause of her death, the coronavirus had a role as well.
The actress was cremated on February 7 per her death certificate, and her daughter Dinah Englund now has her remains. On January 27th, she passed away at her Encinitas, California, home.
“It’s been my privilege to work with Cloris Leachman, one of the most fearless actresses of our time,” her manager Juliet Green previously told E! News in a statement.
“There was no one like Cloris. With a single look, she had the ability to break your heart or make you laugh ’till the tears ran down your face. You never knew what Cloris was going to say or do and that unpredictable quality was part of her unparalleled magic.”
She got a Miss America scholarship while she was in her twenties, allowing her to spend two years in New York City studying voice. She then began her career in the South Pacific musical by Rodgers & Hammerstein.
During her lengthy career, the actress appeared in several memorable roles, including Phyllis, Lassie, Malcolm in the Middle, Spanglish, and The Love Boat. Her voice is well-known to a younger audience because to her roles on shows like The Croods, Elena of Avalor, and Phineas and Ferb.
During her lifetime, Leachman won several accolades, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, a Golden Globe, and eight Primetime Emmys (for shows including Promised Land and A Brand New Life).
She considered retirement in 2016, but told The Hollywood Reporter, “You have to be ready to work.” At least you’re prepared to work if you’re not prepared to live. In 2020, on Mother’s Day, Dinah reminisced with her mother about special times.
On Instagram, “To my mom who taught me the joy of adventure. Who rocked me to sleep in her arms full of love. Who has given me everything she has to give. And I am so proud to be your daughter. “
