Daniel Craig Knives Out

Daniel Craig Knives Out

Daniel Craig Knives Out: A 2019 American mystery film titled Knives Out was written, directed, and produced by Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman. It centers on master detective Benoit Blanc as he looks into the patriarchal death of an affluent but unhappy family.

Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, Lakeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford, Jaeden Martell, and Christopher Plummer are all part of the ensemble cast.

After finishing Looper in 2012, Johnson opted to start production on Knives Out. But he did not pen the script until 2017 because of his work on Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

2018 saw Knives Out’s announcement and the film’s sale to distributors during the Toronto International Film Festival. In the three months from October to December 2018, filming was finished.

On September 7, 2019, Knives Out had its global premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. On November 27, 2019, Lionsgate Films distributed Knives Out in theatres nationwide. It earned overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics, especially for acting, directing, and writing, and it made $311.4 million worldwide on a $40 million budget.

It was nominated for three 77th Golden Globe Awards in the Musical or Comedy category, the 73rd British Academy Film Awards, and the 92nd Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay. It was chosen as one of the top ten movies of 2019 by the American Film Institute and the National Board of Review.

Netflix paid $469 million in March 2021 for the rights to two sequels that Johnson wrote, produced, and starred in. Craig returned in these sequels as well. On December 23, 2022, Netflix will debut its first sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

Knives Out Plot

Rich mystery author Harlan Thrombey’s family is there for his Massachusetts mansion’s 85th birthday celebration. Fran, Harlan’s housekeeper, discovers him dead with his throat slit the following morning. The private investigator Benoit Blanc is recruited undercover to investigate Harlan’s death even though the police think it is suicide.

Blanc discovers that Harlan’s ties with his numerous relatives were tense: The day before he passed away, Harlan made threats against his son-in-law Richard for cheating on his daughter Linda, his daughter-in-law Joni for stealing from him, his son Walt for being dismissed from his publishing company, and his grandson Ransom.

Blanc was unaware that Harlan’s nurse, Marta Cabrera, mistakenly mixed up his meds, leading her to believe she had given him an overdose of morphine. Unable to locate the antidote, she assumed Harlan had only minutes to live.

Marta was instructed to fabricate a fake alibi, and Harlan then stabbed his death to protect Marta’s family from attention (her mother was an illegal immigrant).

Marta was following Harlan’s directions when his elderly mother noticed her but thought she was Ransom. Marta can’t lie without throwing up, so when questioned, she delivers accurate but insufficient responses. She consents to help Blanc with his investigation, and as they examine the property, she hides evidence of her actions.

To everyone’s surprise, Marta is the only beneficiary when Harlan’s will is read aloud. Ransom saves her from the family’s fury, but he tricks her into telling him what happened; he offers assistance in exchange for a portion of the fortune. Walt threatens to reveal Marta’s mother’s immigration status as the other Thrombeys attempt to convince her to reject the legacy.

A portion of Harlan’s toxicology report and a blackmail note are sent to Marta. When they arrive at the medical examiner’s office in their car with Ransom, it has burned down. An email inviting Marta to meet the blackmailer is sent to her.

After a brief automobile pursuit, Blanc and the police catch up with them, and Ransom is taken into custody after Blanc claims that Harlan’s mother saw Ransom leaving Harlan’s room the night before he died. Fran is high when Marta finds him at the meeting place.

She starts CPR while dialing an ambulance. Despite Ransom already knowing about her, she confesses to Blanc and resolves to notify the family that she killed Harlan, which would make the will invalid under the slayer rule.

Knives Out Production

Development

The core idea for Knives Out was developed by writer and director Rian Johnson after working on the 2005 film Brick. He announced his desire to produce a murder mystery movie in the summer of 2010.

After finishing Looper, he informed The Independent that he intended to make the movie (2012). Johnson’s following picture, though, was Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017). Following his press tour for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Johnson spent seven months composing the script.

The Last of Sheila, Murder on the Orient Express, Something’s Afoot, Murder by Death, Death on the Nile, The Private Eyes, The Mirror Crack’d, Evil Under the Sun, Deathtrap, Clue, and Gosford Park are just a few of the classic mystery comedies and thrillers that Johnson listed as influences.

Filming

Boston, Massachusetts-based principal photography commenced on October 30 and was completed on December 20. Berlin, Easton, Marlborough, Natick, Wellesley, Maynard, Waltham, and Medfield were used as filming sites throughout Massachusetts.

Approximately 17 miles (27 km) west of Boston, near Natick, a mansion served as the backdrop for the home’s exteriors. The Ames Mansion in Borderland State Park, Massachusetts, was used for several interior scenes.

Music
The film’s music was composed by Nathan Johnson. He has previously collaborated with his cousin, the director Rian Johnson, on the movie Brick, The Brothers Bloom, and Looper. Cut Narrative Records published the soundtrack on November 27, 2019, to coincide with the movie’s release.
