Henry is said to have earned $4.73 million in total from the deal. Ruggs would have made about $2.85 million from that contract after federal taxes, agent fees, and other expenditures, excluding his accident-related legal costs, as Las Vegas is in Nevada, a state without income taxes.

On January 24, 1999, Henry Ruggs III was born in Montgomery, Alabama. He was a three-sport star in football, basketball, and track while he was a student at Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School.

Ruggs, a highly sought-after football prospect, made his collegiate football commitment to the University of Alabama. He was a part of the Alabama squad that won the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship and started for Alabama for three seasons.

At Alabama, Ruggs was a productive receiver. As a rookie in 2017, he caught 12 receptions for 229 yards and six touchdowns. In 2018, he backed it up with 46 receptions for 741 yards and 11 scores.

Ruggs caught 40 receptions for 746 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior in 2019. Additionally, he brought back 17 punts for 264 yards and a score. In 2019, Ruggs was a unanimous All-American. In addition, he received the SEC Offensive Player of the Year award.
