How Did Shania Twain Start Her Career?
After the dissolution of Longshot, Twain joined a cover band called Flirt and toured all across Ontario with them, all the while studying voice with Ian Garrett, a Toronto-based vocal teacher. She had a hard time raising money to go to Nashville to record demos, but she caught the attention of Toronto DJ Stan Campbell, who brought her there.
Shania met and became acquainted with Mary Bailey, a regional country singer. Bailey was an instant fan of Shania’s voice. Under the terms of her recording contract, Twain moved into Bailey’s home, where she spent daily honing her musical skills and recording additional demos.
John Kim Bell introduced her to people in the Canadian Country Music Association, and that’s how they met. They started seeing each other behind each other’s backs. Bell’s 1987 benefit, which featured Shania, was her first major break. Shania’s mother and stepfather were killed in a car accident in November 1987.
She returned home to care for her younger siblings, putting her singing career on hold. She performed at the Ontario resort where they were staying so they wouldn’t feel alone. After her younger siblings had left home, she put together a demo tape that grabbed the ear of many record labels, including Mercury Nashville Records.
Within a short timeframe, they had signed her. If you find this interesting, please forward it to your friends. Visit Newswatchlist.com for the most up-to-date and recent celebrity news.
