Jim Carrey, an actor, is asking $28.9 million for the nearly 30-year-old Los Angeles residence.
Mr. Jim Carrey, born in Canada, bought the ranch-style Brentwood home in 1994, around the time of the release of his first significant movie hit, “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.” It wasn’t clear how much he paid.
In a statement, Jim Carrey said the property had been “a place of enchantment and inspiration” to him over “30 very creative and prosperous years.”
“Every night, the owls sang me lullabies, and every morning, I sipped my cup of joe with the hawks and hummingbirds under a giant grandfather pine,” he said.
According to listing agent Janelle Friedman of Sotheby’s International Realty, the approximately 12,700-square-foot estate has a five-bedroom main house with a historic brick front and modern interiors. The property, which covers around 2 acres, features a tennis court, a waterfall pool, a jacuzzi, and a pool house with a sauna and steam room. It also has a gym. Additionally, she explained there is a unique outdoor yoga and meditation platform.
There are traces of Mr. Carrey’s personality throughout the house. Costumes from Mr. Carrey’s movies are displayed in glass cases on the walls of a custom home cinema with mohair-covered sofas, burl wood columns, and a snack area. They consist of a pair of blue overalls from “The Cable Guy” and the Grinch’s Santa Claus outfit. His “Batman Forever” Riddler costume and a few MTV Movie & TV Awards medals are on display at a nearby bar area.
Dramatic splashes of color, some of which are provided by Mr. Carrey’s artwork—the actor is also a prolific painter who has achieved acclaim for his bright, graphic, and color-saturated pieces—break up the home’s neutral, modest look. “Ayla,” a sculpture by Mr. Carrey that features a bare-chested lady gazing through a frame, is located on the lawn. The artwork and relics are not included in the house’s sale.

The principal living area in the main home features pitched, beamed ceilings with skylights, and the living, dining, and family rooms each have a fireplace of their own. The house’s French doors all lead to a sizable courtyard terrace. The main bedroom suite features a covered balcony overlooking the grounds, its sitting area, and a fireplace.
In a statement, Mr. Carrey said he was selling the property because he no longer spends as much time there. “I want someone else to enjoy it as I have,” he said, referencing a famous song by David Bowie: “Ch-ch-ch-changes!”
Most people are familiar with Mr. Carrey from the movies “The Mask,” “Dumb and Dumber,” and “Liar Liar.” He has more recently appeared in the “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie series.
