Joe Ingles Injury: The Utah Jazz announced that forward Joe Ingles would miss the rest of the season because an MRI showed that he tore the ACL in his left knee. He did not hurt his knee any other way, and surgery will be done on it in the next few weeks.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN and Sarah Todd of The Deseret News both say that Ingles will need to get his left knee to move again before the surgery can happen. Sunday’s 126-106 loss on the road to the Minnesota Timberwolves hurt Ingles.

As he drove to the basket with 5:52 left in the second quarter, his left knee seemed to buckle, and he had to be helped off the court without being able to put any weight on it. As Jazz players and staff surrounded Ingles, the Target Center crowd fell silent.

After the game, the team said Ingles would get an MRI on Monday to see how bad the injury was. Wojnarowski later noted that the Jazz is worried about how severe Ingles’ damage is. Since 2014, Ingles has played all 634 regular and postseason games with Utah.

This season, he averages 7.4 points, 3.5 assists, and a 35.1% 3-point shooting percentage. “I feel bad for him,” said Utah assistant head coach Alex Jensen, who was filling in for head coach Quin Snyder while Snyder was in Health and Safety Protocols. “We all hope it’s better than we think.”

The Jazz had lost 10 of their last 12 games going into Sunday night’s game, and Donovan Mitchell (concussion protocol) and Rudy Gobert were still out (calf strain). Snyder and Danuel House, who just signed as a free agents, were also added to the Health & Safety Protocols at the last minute.

Ingles is in the last year of the $52 million, four-year contract he signed in 2017. This summer, he can sign with any team he wants. Utah hopes to have more success in the playoffs after losing in the Western Conference semifinals in 2021, even though they were the overall top seed.

How Long Will Joe Ingles Be Out?

In his first report, Wojnarowski said Ingles will need to improve “through the start of the 2022-23 season.” Still, Australian legend Andrew Gaze noted in July that Ingles told him he hoped to be back on the court in the middle of December.

When Eric Nehm of The Athletic asked Jon Horst about this timeline, he said the team expects “something in that December or January timeframe.” The Bucks gave Ingles a one-year deal worth $6.5 million.
