Lachlan Murdoch Net Worth

British-American entrepreneur and media mogul Lachlan Keith Murdoch was born on September 8, 1971. He established the Australian investment firm Illyria Pty Ltd. and serves as its executive chairman, chairman, and CEO, in addition to his other roles at Nova Entertainment, News Corp., and Fox.

Lachlan Murdoch Net Worth

Australian-born British-American billionaire and media heir Lachlan Murdoch is estimated to be worth $2.7 billion. Lachlan Murdoch, Rupert Murdoch’s eldest son, is the executive chairman and CEO of Fox Corporation as well as the co-chairman of his father’s News Corp. Through his investment firm Illyria Pty, which he also founded, Murdoch controls NOVA Entertainment.

Lachlan Murdoch Private Investments

Murdoch started Illyria Pty., a private investment firm, because he was barred from working in the same industry for two years after leaving News Corp.

Through it, he amassed a diverse portfolio that includes stakes in the digital media firm Destra, the online DVD rental service Quickflix, and the Indian Premier League cricket franchise Rajasthan Royals. Murdoch first became chairman of NOVA Entertainment in late 2009 after purchasing 50% of the firm, and he eventually purchased the remaining shares.

Lachlan Murdoch Lawsuits

Murdoch and his father were sued for billions of dollars by voting equipment manufacturers Dominion and Smartmatic. In 2021, these businesses filed a lawsuit against Fox News for propagating false information that they had engaged in electoral fraud during the 2020 presidential election.

Dominion claimed that, at Lachlan Murdoch’s behest, Fox News falsely linked the firm to allegations of fraud and knowingly provided a forum for the dissemination of slanderous and inaccurate assertions about the company’s machinery. Fox News paid Dominion $787.5 million to end their lawsuit in the spring of 2023. Meanwhile, the Smartmatic case has yet to be resolved as of this writing.

Lachlan Murdoch True Estate

Murdoch and his wife had previously lived in a home at Elizabeth Bay, Sydney, which they called “Berthong.” In 2003, actor Russell Crowe purchased it. Murdoch spent $23 million for a 44,100 square foot estate in Bellevue Hill six years later and another $11 million on a neighboring 11,290 square foot property.

He and his wife spent $29 million on an Aspen, Colorado equestrian property in 2017 that included a six-bedroom, 13,500-square-foot mansion. In 2019, Lachlan made news when he spent $150 million for a 10-acre home in Bel-Air. Title credits for the 1960s TV show “The Beverly Hillbillies” included the house (then known as “Chartwell”) shown in the scene.

At the time of its acquisition, it was the most expensive home ever acquired in California. A few months later, when Jeff Bezos paid $300 million for a neighbouring house, Lachlan could no longer claim to have the most expensive mansion in California.

However, it is important to remember that Bezos also acquired the 1.3-acre empty land where Ronald and Nancy Reagan had lived prior to their deaths. It was discovered in August of 2020 that Lachlan had paid $14 million for one of his neighboring homes. Ex-supermodel Cheryl Tiegs was the vendor.
