Since 2019, American politician and attorney Eric Johnson have held the position of 60th Mayor of Dallas, Texas. He previously served as a Democratic representative for District 100 in the Texas cities of Dallas and Mesquite in the Texas House of Representatives.

Dallas, Texas’s 60th mayor, Eric Johnson, was chosen in June 2019. Johnson held the position of the mayor before serving as a representative for the City of Dallas in the Texas House of Representatives from April 2010 to June 2019. Johnson served on many legislative committees in the Texas Legislature, including Appropriations, Ways and Means, Higher Education, and Natural Resources. Additionally, he presided over the Dallas Area Legislative Delegation.

Johnson was born in Dallas and attended schools in the Dallas Independent School District through first grade before receiving a scholarship from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas to attend Greenhill School. He studied history at Harvard College, where he received a commendable degree.

Johnson was born in Dallas, Texas, on October 10, 1975. He attended Dallas ISD schools up to the second grade when the West Dallas Boys & Girls Club offered him a scholarship to attend Greenhill School. In 1994, Johnson received a diploma from Greenhill School.

Johnson afterward enrolled in Harvard University and lived in Cabot House. Johnson’s victory made him one of the youngest mayors of a significant American city and the second African American to be elected mayor of Dallas in the city’s history (the first was Ron Kirk). On June 17, 2019, U.S. District Court Judge Sam Lindsay administered his oath of office as mayor.

In August, Johnson had joined Locke Lord as a partner. Johnson informed the Dallas City Council in an open letter he delivered to them in September 2019 that Visit Dallas’ interim CEO Sam Coats intended to eliminate the City-allocated Board members. Johnson pressed for federal assistance when an EF-3 tornado hit Dallas early in his administration.

In 2019, Johnson led a budget that received unanimous approval. However, Johnson began promoting a plan to “defund the bureaucracy,” a play on the slogan “defund the police,” as the budget season at City Hall got underway in 2020.
