Mcmillan And Wife

Mcmillan And Wife: From September 17, 1971, through April 24, 1977, NBC broadcast the American police procedural television series McMillan & Wife, also known as McMillan, from 1976 to 1977. The NBC Mystery Movie wheel series, which debuted with Columbo and McCloud in rotation, starred Rock Hudson and Susan Saint James as the title characters.

The first schedule, which debuted on Wednesday nights, was moved to Sundays in the second season, where it ran for the remainder of its run. Sally McMillan, played by St. James, was killed off in the show’s last season dubbed McMillan.

Mcmillan And Wife Plot

Stuart McMillan (Rock Hudson), a former criminal defense lawyer now the police commissioner of San Francisco, and his handsome, intelligent, and amiable wife Sally (Susan Saint James), who was in her 20s, were the central characters of McMillan & Wife. Before solving thefts and murders, Mac and Sally frequently visited chic parties and charitable events in the episodes.

The couple’s acerbic, hard-drinking maid, Mildred, and John Schuck as McMillan’s charming, somewhat inept assistant Sgt. Charles Enright offered comedic relief.

Sally is expecting towards the conclusion of season 1. However, this is reportedly retconned away because it is never brought up in subsequent seasons. In season 4, she becomes pregnant once more, and the baby (a boy) is born in the season’s penultimate episode. In season 5, the infant is not shown or referenced.

Mcmillan And Wife Popularity

McMillan & Wife, like the other two original NBC Mystery Movie programs, became popular immediately. Following its network run on NBC, it frequently aired as part of The CBS Late Movie and subsequently in the form of syndicated reruns on local and cable television around the country.

Mcmillan And Wife

McMillan & Wife debuted on MeTV as part of the “MeTV Mystery Movie” late-night program on January 1, 2015. The other two long-running Sunday mystery movie series, McCloud and Columbo, the Wednesday mystery movie series Banacek, and the television movies starring Perry Mason, aired within that time slot. A different series aired every night during its feature week, which changed each week.

The series will start airing on Cozi TV in 2022 as a part of the “Columbo & Company” programming block, together with episodes of the Columbo, McCloud, Banacek, and Quincy, M.E. from The NBC Mystery Movie series.

The show got a significant overhaul for its sixth and final season. After disagreeing on a new contract, Susan Saint James left. [Reference needed] Nancy Walker also departed the show before the start of the sixth season in 1976 to take the lead in the 12-episode sitcom The Nancy Walker Show.

As a result of these events, the program was renamed McMillan and Sally died in an aircraft crash along with the couple’s son, who was never seen. Mac, now a widower, relocated to a posh condo and left the family home.

To play on her position as Rosie, the waitress in a series of Bounty Paper Towels ads still airing, Mildred was written out as having left the McMillans to create her diner on the East Coast.

When John Schuck joined the sitcom Holmes and Yo-Yo, on which show director Leonard B. Stern was working, his role was diminished. Agatha replaced Mildred as Mac’s housekeeper at his new apartment, and Martha Raye, who had previously played Mildred’s sister Agatha in an earlier episode, joined the show full-time.

In the interim, Sergeant Enright lost his role as Mac’s liaison when he was promoted to Lieutenant and became Deputy Chief of the San Francisco Police. The replacement for Enright, Sergeant DiMaggio, who always presented himself with “no connection,” Richard Gilliland, joined the cast (about Joe DiMaggio).

Mcmillan And Wife Filming locations

The McMillans’ home’s interior set in the pilot episode was Rock Hudson’s home. Exterior images from their new home were filmed on San Francisco’s Greenwich Street for the second episode, in which they moved. The couple’s address was formerly given as 250 Trenton Street in the show.

A different house was used as the outside view of the residence in later episodes. The house was never seen or mentioned again until McMillan, who had recently been widowed, moved into an apartment in the last season.
