Pat’s first journey into media occurred in the 1960s while he was a student at Columbia College in Chicago, where he was picked to be a news anchor on the local radio station, WEDC. During the Vietnam War, he joined the Army and worked as a deejay on Armed Forces Radio.
After returning from Vietnam, he continued DJing for Kentucky and Nashville stations (WSM). He got his first on-screen appearance at WSM’s sister station, WSN-TV.

Fred Silverman, then-CEO of NBC, rejected the plan. Merv Griffin threatened to cancel all future tapings until Sajak was recruited. Sajak was eventually hired and has hosted the show since 1981. Susan Stafford was his hostess until 1982 when Vanna White replaced her.
