In the wake of a spate of stabbings that engulfed Davis, authorities have detained a person of interest to make an arrest.

CBS13 identified the person as fitting the Davis police’s description of the suspect, including dark curly hair and dressing in black Adidas track trousers.

He was taken into custody at Pine Lane and Colby Drive, about a block from Sycamore Park, the scene of Saturday’s fatal shooting of UC Davis student Karim Abou-Najm. The person was brought to the Davis Police Department for interrogation.

Police will make the man’s arrest public on Thursday, according to sources in the law enforcement community.

Three stabbings occurred between Thursday and Monday night, two fatal. David Breaux, 50, was named as the first stabbing victim. He was homeless and well-known in the neighborhood as “The Compassion Guy.”

The victim of the second stabbing was Abou-Najm. On his way home, he was slain on a bike path from presenting ground-breaking research. In a few days, he was scheduled to graduate.

On Monday night, a woman was stabbed through her tent at a homeless camp near l and 2nd streets. Despite being stabilized, her situation is still critical.

Investigators have not yet determined the involvement of several suspects or serial killers. According to Davis police, they are collaborating with the FBI to have profilers make that judgment.
