Los Angeles Dodgers Owner Peter Seidler at the Age of 63, Has Passed Away!

Peter Seidler dies

The San Diego Padres announced on Tuesday that Peter Seidler, the team’s owner and chairman, had passed away. He was 63. They did not reveal the circumstances surrounding Seidler’s death. The Padres said he has beaten cancer twice before, including a bout with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

“The Padres organization mourns the passing of our beloved Chairman and owner, Peter Seidler,” Padres CEO Erik Greupner said in a statement. “Today, our love and prayers encircle Peter’s family as they grieve the loss of an extraordinary husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.

Greupner remarked that Seidler was a kind man who was courteous and generous to those less fortunate than himself. “His impact on the city of San Diego and the baseball world will be felt for generations. His generous spirit is now firmly embedded in the fabric of the Padres,” Greupner said.

“Although he was our Chairman and owner, Peter was at his core a Padres fan. He will be dearly missed.” MLB commissioner Rob Manfred released a statement lamenting Seidler’s passing as well. “I am deeply saddened by the news of Peter’s passing,” Manfred said.

“Peter grew up in a baseball family, and his love of the game was evident throughout his life. He was passionate about owning the Padres and bringing the fans of San Diego a team in which they could always take pride.” Seidler’s grandfather was longtime Dodgers owner Walter O’Malley, the organization noted on its website.

While partner Ron Fowler served as chairman when Seidler’s investment group bought the Padres in 2012, the franchise indicated that Seidler played a more low-key role at first. Seidler was elected as the Padres’ chairman in 2020.

According to his biography on the Padres’ website, he established Seidler Equity Partners, a private equity fund that provides assistance to entrepreneurial companies in the United States and Australia.

Seidler also developed an initiative known as “Tuesday Group,” a weekly gathering that explored the homelessness crisis in San Diego, his biography reads. He was named San Diego Nice Guy of the Year and San Diego Public Official of the Year in 2017 for his work in these areas.

The following year, he was honored with the San Diego Downtown Partnership Founder Award, the San Diego Chamber of Commerce Award for Regional Collaboration, and the National Conflict Resolution Center’s 30th Annual Peacemaker Award.

According to his CV, Seidler and his family have participated in philanthropic endeavors on behalf of medical institutions like the American Cancer Society and the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. His mother and nine siblings also survive him, as does his wife and their three children.
