Power Trip’s lead vocalist Riley Gale passed away at 34. No specific reason for de@th has been given.

The band wrote in a statement:

It is with the greatest of sadness we must announce that our lead singer and brother Riley Gale passed away last night. Riley was a friend, a brother, a son. Riley was both a larger than life rock star and a humble and giving friend. He touched so many lives through his lyrics and through his huge heart. He treated everyone he met as a friend and he always took care of his friends. We will celebrate Riley’s life and never forget the great works of music, charity, and love that he left behind. You, the fans, meant so much to him, please know how special you are. If you have a memory of Riley please share it, no matter how small, as we remember him.

One of America’s most dynamic and politically astute metal bands, Power Trip’s music is influenced by hardcore punk. They were founded in Dallas in 2008.

Between 2013 and 2017, they published the critically acclaimed albums Manifest Decimation and Nightmare Logic, a collection of early songs and a live album.

Gale appeared as a special guest on Body Count’s Point the Finger in 2020. Ice-T was one of the artists paying tribute to Gale at the time. “I’m devastated… Still don’t know how… I’m speechless,” He tweeted something. Additional awards were made by members of Anthrax, Machine Head, Slipknot, and other bands; the group Code Orange wrote: “You made a huge dent in heavy music history that will last for ever.”

Gale was a vocal opponent of Donald Trump who claimed in 2017 that he “certainly falls under what I would label as ‘the enemy to the common people.’ I think that man violates human rights on a regular basis and I think he’s awful and I think he needs to be stopped.”

He said that Nightmare Logic was inspired by the social injustice and activism that his lyrics tackled “dealing with this waking nightmare, things seem so surreal that they’re unbelievable … trying to find optimism and a motivating force and realising that the 99% of us have more in common than we think.” In 2017, the band tweeted “cease and desist” to Fox News when the network played some of their music.

Gale’s age was confirmed to the Guardian by his UK press representative, contrary to other sources that said he was 35 years old.
