At about 4:30 p.m. on March 8, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and Fountain Hills Rural/Metro Fire went to Shea Boulevard near Arista Lane to help with a four-car crash that had hurt people.
Capt. Larry Kratzer of the MCSO said that investigators found that the driver of one car had a medical event that caused their car to cross from the westbound lanes of Shea into the eastbound lanes. Then, that car drove straight into another car going east.
Two other vehicles were also hit by this accident. Also, two other cars were damaged by the pieces of metal and glass thrown by the other vehicles.

Three people were hurt, but their injuries were not life-threatening, so they were taken to local hospitals.
Shea traffic was prolonged going in both directions because all three eastbound lanes were closed until the investigation ended, and two westbound lanes were closed. Staff from the Town of Fountain Hills Public Works helped MCSO clean up the mess so that all lanes of traffic could be opened.
