Authorities in California said a 26-year-old Home Depot employee was fatally shot after confronting an alleged shoplifter armed with a weapon.
After escaping the scene in a getaway car, the accused gunman and an alleged accomplice were apprehended, according to authorities.
The shooting happened inside a Pleasanton, California, Home Depot on Tuesday at around 2:15 p.m.
Blake Mohs, an unarmed loss prevention employee, “attempted to stop a theft in progress when a struggle ensued,” According to a statement from the Pleasanton Police Department. According to jail records, Guillory has been lodged in the Santa Rita County Jail on accusations of obstruction, eluding a police officer, and child abuse.
Knapps is receiving medical care at a hospital and will be scheduled for booking once she is released, according to Silacci. After the shooting, the getaway car may have hit her, according to the police, he added.
According to Silacci, Knapps will be arrested on suspicion of murder, robbery, child endangerment, and conspiracy. He suggested that additional costs might be likely.
Mohs, a resident of Tri-Valley, was engaged to be married this summer, according to the police.
“We’re heartbroken over this senseless tragedy,” Home Depot said. “Blake was our associate and friend, and our hearts go out to his family and everyone who knew and loved him.”
Karla Brown, the mayor of Pleasanton, described the shooting as “senseless.”
