After pleading guilty in 1998, Kaczynski was sentenced to eight life terms for mailing bombs between 1978 and 1995, when three persons were ki!!ed and twenty-three others were injured.
The former Harvard mathematics professor was apprehended in a remote Montana cabin in 1996.
Kaczynski was transferred to a federal medical center in North Carolina in 2021, as reported by the Federal Bureau of Pr!sons. On December 14, 2021, he was sent to FMC Butner from Supermax in Florence, Colorado.
Prosecutors painted Kaczynski as a spiteful recluse after he wrote the Unabomber Manifesto, a 30,000-word essay.
Kaczynski used the document to make a moral case for his m*rderous campaign, saying that he was acting to protect people and the environment from the destructive effects of technology and commercialization.

“I believe in nothing,” Kaczynski wrote. “I don’t even believe in the cult of nature-worshipers or wilderness-worshipers. (I am perfectly ready to litter in parts of the woods that are of no use to me – I often throw cans in logged-over areas.)”
Kaczynski’s writings, which expressed a deep hatred of humans, were cited at length in a sentencing memorandum.
Kaczynski’s family has maintained since his arrest in April 1996 (thanks to a tip from his brother David) that the writings reflect the thoughts of a paranoid schizophrenic rather than a ruthless ki!!er. The deἀth penalty was dropped because of the opinion of a psychiatrist working in federal pr!son.
